The extraordinarily large and enthusiastic crowds that we saw yesterday were duplicated today, giving Yatris the sense that the #BharatJodoYatra has gained tremendous traction with the people.

All through the route there were people lined up waiting for the Yatris and Congress leaders to pass by. The Yatris started their evening walk from Balanagar junction, walking approximately 11 kilometres at Solipur near the Shadnagar bypass.

Yatri Yogesh Kumar Meena came across a group of youth that he says “Has been there for hours to see Rahul Gandhi.” Along the way we met with Susi Tharu and
Akhileshwari who were there to actively participate in the Yatra.

Yatris Yogesh Meena and Lalit Farswan encountered a group of yourh who had been waiting for the Yatra for a while

In fact one instance is ample proof of the crowd’s enthusiasm and regard for the Yatris. We met Prem Lal who was there with Bhavya,12, Nikhil, 10, and Preetika, 8; not just to greet the Yatris but also to offer them refreshments. On behalf of everyone, we extend our sincerest thanks.

Bhavya,12; Nikhil, 10; and Preetika, 8; were offering refreshments to Yatris. Thanks guys!

There was a meeting between Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and members of the civil society. It was a free exchange of ideas covering a wide range of topics. Gandhi had an in-depth outline of the reasons for the Bharat Jodo Yatra, defining three key areas. One – India was getting divided, and the need to combat divisiveness. Two the failure of the current economic model. And three, huge levels of unemployment and price rise.

In response to a question Gandhi stated that the power of the BJP/ RSS combined was an illusion. “If people stand up, they will back down.”

In response to another question he stated that a major concern in India today was unemployment. “These youth cannot get a job,” he said, “They are being told that you will not get jobs, good education or healthcare.”

Speaking to a capacity crowd at a corner speech in the evening Gandhi stated that “(We are) not tired even after walking 26 km today and this is only possible with all the love, support and your blessings and good will only.”

He spoke for all the Yatris.

Currently in the state of Telangana, the Bharat Jodo Yatra is a five month, 3500 kilometre long Padyatra from Kanyakumari in the South of India to Kashmir up in the North. It is part of the party’s national mass outreach program aimed at highlighting social polarisation, economic inequalities and political centralisation.
