From head to tail, the procession stretched more than two kilometres as the yatris began their morning session at Shoranur SMP, Junction.

Continuing his tradition of meeting with locals, youth and eminent personalities along the route, Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi walked with triple jumper and Commonwealth silver medallist athlete Abdulla Aboobacker for part of the way.

The general excitement among the public to see and meet Gandhi has become a persistent theme of this yatra. Today we came across three girls – Shaada, Haneena and Ria-  who had painted a remarkable picture of him and were waiting by the roadside hoping to meet him.

We came across Balagopal and family who were standing outside their house just to watch the yatra. “It’s a great program,” he said “To unite the nation”.

This day the yatris crossed over to the district of Palakkad, marked by some uphill climbs and known as the rice bowl of Kerala.

Their arrival at Pattambi was followed by a garlanding of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue. Gandhiji had addressed a large gathering here.

Today we also congratulate Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister, who turns 90. He remains a legend to all Indians. Long may he continue to inspire us all.
